No matter where you live in the world, the desire to work from home seems ever present. A new survey carried out in India by industry body Assocham has revealed that the vast majority of women across the country prefer working part-time or working from home.
The study found that the main reason this was the preferable lifestyle choice for women was so that they could spend more time with their children and build a 'strong foundation' for them.
The survey polled over 4,500 working couples in cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore and Chennai.
Assocham Secretary General D S Rawat said, “Most of women prefer to work either from home or part-time so that they can take out time for their children.
“Nearly 56 per cent of women said working from home is an ideal situation for them, while 16 per cent of them said they would prefer to work full-time,” he added.
The survey also revealed that seven out of ten working women said that they would prefer part-time work and would not opt for a full-time job.
A stark difference in the way mothers who work from home and mothers who work in an office was also revealed. Those working full-time awarded themselves slightly lower ratings as parents, on average, than mothers who were employed part-time.
