Individuals keen to work from home in the UK could be set to benefit from a "home agent programme" developed by relationship management experts Convergys.
Following the success of the programme across 29 US states and six Canadian provinces, the firm is now seeking UK clients to support the rollout.
Individuals involved in the programme work from home by receiving calls about billing and technical assistance from customers of Convergys clients in a variety of industries.
Representatives for Convergys explained that the initiative is a response to the "growing need" for workers to have more flexible working hours and the option to work from home.
Brad Krinhop, vice-president of operations, pointed out that "the elimination of a daily commute" enables workers to save money on fuel, car maintenance, parking, clothes and meals.
"The programme provides an ideal opportunity for students facing high tuition costs, stay-at-home parents needing a second income to help pay bills, or retirees who wish to augment their retirement savings," he added.
Krinhop notes that potential applicants will need a quiet place to work inside their home, a PC that meets Convergys' minimum standards, cable or DSL high-speed internet access and a noise-cancelling headset.
