The rise in the number of Britons setting up businesses from home is being documented in a film that will be shown on the UK's first-ever Home Enterprise Day, November 29th.

Representatives for home business website Enterprise Nation kicked off a national road trip this month to begin work on the documentary, starting in Northumberland and moving on to Newcastle.

Emma Jones, founder of Enterprise Nation, told Newcastle's Journal newspaper that UK streets are "buzzing" with individuals starting and growing their own enterprises.

"We're very excited about visiting the north-east and filming some of these great businesses, as well as talking to policy-makers who are working to encourage and support home enterprise in the region," she added.

Sarah Stewart from Work Wise UK, a not-for-profit initiative which encourages the widespread adoption of "smarter" working practices, pointed out that a lot of home workers are already discarding the traditional Monday-to-Friday, nine-to-five week, leading to a greater balance of work-life pressures.

“We are very excited about the potential of this sector and see it playing an increasingly important role in the development of the economy," she said of the home-working phenomenon.
