A new survey from Nectar Business has highlighted the flexibility available to homeworkers when it comes to what they wear for work, where they work and how they manage their day.

The survey found that eight per cent of female homeworkers work in their pyjamas. However, 10 per cent of male remote workers still prefer to wear a suit and tie, despite not being required to do so.

Just over a quarter of those working from home have multi-tasked by taking a business call at the same time as having a bath, whilst 39 per cent have conducted a work call when they were with a friend, at a café or in a pub. Four in ten find working from home beneficial because they can manage household chores around work.

According to the Office for National Statistics, almost 13 per cent of the UK workforce now work “mainly from home” and over a quarter “sometimes” work at home.

The TUC says that growth in the popularity of homeworking has driven commute times to a ten-year low. and it has urged employers to consider the business advantages of allowing staff to work remotely, as well as the environmental benefits.
