Graduates ‘want better work-life balance’

Graduates around the UK are keen to establish a better work-life balance for themselves as they start their professional lives, according to the people aiming to recruit them.

Allowing staff to operate from home is one of the most common ways employers help their workforce gain the balance they want, while recent research found that a full 90 per cent of graduate recruiters say they need to address the work-life equation to attract the best employees.

The research was carried out by the Association of Graduate Recruiters (AGR) and the organisation concludes that the latest generation to enter the workplace expects more from their employer, in terms of meeting work-life balance demands, than has been the case before.

Chief executive of the AGR Carl Gilleard commented: "Our survey shows that recruiters are adapting to the changing needs of this group of graduates, looking at new and alternative methods for recruitment and adapting their practices to remain competitive and avoid letting the best talent slip through the net."

Founded in 1968, the AGR has 600 member organisations around the UK and operates on a not-for-profit basis.
