Home-based workers need to consider ergonomic issues if they are to be fully productive and avoid aches and pains, it has been suggested.
Ergonomics refers to the way a workspace is laid out and utilised, which is becoming an increasingly important issue as more and more people take the chance to work from home, according to home-based businessman Kanaga Sivaraj.
It is crucial that positioning of keyboards, computer screens and lighting equipment is considered fully during the setting up of a home-based office, Mr Sivaraj asserts in a report for the Small Business Informer.
"Poor equipment layout and thoughtless layout are the main culprits for excessive strain on certain parts of the body such as the frequently used muscles in the hand, neck and back," he writes.
"Your home office is the place where you are going to spend several hours a day. Ensure that you will be comfortable and happy working from home."
Earlier this week, a report from City & Guilds and the Institute of Leadership and Management claimed that business bosses need to improve their skills when it comes to dealing with their home-based workforce.
