Working from home is growing in popularity, according to one office expert’s recent comments.

Ciaron Dunne, director of Officegenie.co.uk, noted that both remote and home working are becoming increasingly common. This is down to improvements in online working, as well as the “growing acceptance of flexible working practices”.

However, the trend is having a knock-on effect on the office rental market, according to Mr Dunne. He explained that renting office space is now more relevant than ever, with small businesses, freelancers and entrepreneurs all showing an interest in hiring out spare office spaces temporarily when they need a working location away from home.

There are all sorts of reasons why homeworkers might occasionally find themselves in need of some alternative professional space. “These range from practical ones, such as use of a meeting room, to simply wanting to get out of the house, or meeting new people in a creative environment,” noted the office rental expert.

The remarks follow research from the CBI, which found that at least one form of flexible working is now allowed by 96 per cent of employers. Furthermore, 70 per cent were shown to offer at least three types of flexible working, such as home, part-time hours, term-time working, job-sharing, flexi-time and more.
