Work Wise UK, the campaign aimed at changing the way employees operate around the country, has received the backing of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH).
The institution is the largest body of its kind in Europe and has now offered its support for the initiative that is encouraging employers to allow their staff to operate from home and to work more flexible hours.
Adoption of "smarter working" practices by British businesses would lead to a reduction in stress, depression and anxiety levels, which in 2004-05 accounted for close to 13 million lost working days nationwide, IOSH explains.
President of IOSH Lisa Fowlie said "Many people have to work overtime or commute long distances, which adds hours to their working day."
"It is widely accepted that flexible working can help employees achieve a proper work-life balance."
IOSH is a not-for-profit group that aims to offer impartial advice and guidance on matters relating to workplace health and safety.
