Technology experts working for companies across the UK are backing the growing trend towards creating a more flexible workforce, according to reports.

Indeed, many British firms are now aiming to ensure that their entire staff can operate effectively from outside the office as part of their business continuity and disaster management planning, reports silicon.com.

And these benefits add to others outlined recently by the not-for-profit organisation Work Wise UK, which suggests home-based working on a large scale would reduce congestion on Britain’s busy roads and reduce overall carbon emissions.

"Remote and mobile working are essential components of any service-based organisation," Gavin Whatrup, group IT director at the marketing and advertising agency Creston, is quoted as saying.

"Being able to access corporate resources regardless of geography, time or situation increases efficiency, assists in flexible working policies and is a key element of business continuity planning," he added.

Work Wise UK encourages British employees to work from home and the organisation has the backing of both Transport for London and the British Chamber of Commerce.
