A new videoconferencing device which it is claimed will help ease the transition towards "mass adoption" of teleworking technology has been unveiled.

Tandberg, the company behind the new product, is convinced that its device can offer a solution to some of the operational problems faced by companies around the world as the number of business professionals working from outside their office continues to increase.

Dubbed Movi, Tandberg’s videoconferencing solution enables face-to-face contact between office-based and home-based workers and is described as being as portable as an ordinary laptop computer.

Chief executive at Tandberg Fredrik Halvorsen commented: "Videoconferencing from a PC portends a major cultural shift that will benefit the global workforce."

"As PC-based visual communications becomes commonplace across the enterprise, the definition of ‘workplace’ will evolve – making employees more mobile and enabling employers to better manage a geographically distributed workforce," he added.

Meanwhile, a recent study conducted by Nokia and the Economist Intelligence Unit asserted that mobile working is becoming an increasingly common feature of global business operations.
