Aberdeen City Council employees have discovered the benefits of working from home after the council's headquarters was forced to be closed due to flooding.
The Marischal College headquarters were flooded overnight due to a burst water pipe, leaving an unknown amount of damage and no electricity supply due to safety precautions.
A spokeswoman from the council told STV: “Marischal College had to close to staff and the public this morning after a burst water pipe was discovered in the north wing of the building.
"The leak was stopped and the pipe has been repaired. However, there was some superficial water damage caused to this part of the building, which prompted concerns about the fire alarm and electrical systems.”
Fortunately, some of the council's staff were accustomed to working from home so they followed advice and stayed away from the office. However, the headquarters, which house around 1,300 staff, were due to be reopened this lunchtime at about 12:30 to allow urgent enquiries to be processed.
The renovation of the building was completed in June of last ear following a high-profile £65 million project.
