Working from home benefits employers as well as staff, says expert

It is common knowledge that many people find working from home far more suitable for their lifestyle than commuting into an office each day.

Now, one expert has revealed that home working not only benefits employees, but employers too.

Carole White, Building up Business manager at business advisory firm, TEDCO, says that by allowing staff to work from home on either a full or part-time basis, their productivity will be increased, and their staff will be more motivated.

Other benefits include improved retention of employees, especially those with children who would otherwise find working difficult, and reduced staff stress and sickness levels.

White also revealed that employers could make savings on office space and other facilities and that sales staff could be better located close to clients rather than in the office. She said that, as staff would have fewer interruptions and less commuting time, their productivity at work would increase dramatically. Less commuting also means fewer emissions and a greener environment.

White suggested that home working did not have to mean an employee working from home the entire week. She said, “A shift towards home working doesn’t mean employees have to work only at home. Splitting time between home and the workplace is the most productive solution, but you may want the home worker to attend meetings to keep them fully involved and informed.”
