Sales of home office furniture across the UK have skyrocketed, suggesting that working from home is becoming ever more popular.
Department store Debenhams has announced that it has 'significantly' increased the amount of home office furniture sold at its stores across the country, leading them to believe that more and more people are choosing to work at home.
Recently released figures from Debenhams revealed a 340 per cent increase in sales for home office furniture and equipment during the past year. Company sales records have shown that some of the items which are proving particularly popular with customers include triangular-shaped work stations and small, glass-top desks. Other popular items include compact book shelves, filing cabinets, and leather office chairs.
Carie Barkhuizen, spokesperson for Debenhams, said, “The data gathered shows that thousands of Britons who have lost their jobs during the past few years have taken it upon themselves to start their own businesses, hence the increased demand for home office furniture.
“While being made redundant is never something one wishes for, it may be the necessary evil needed to give people the motivation to start their own businesses,” she added.
