An MP from the north-east of England has come out in support of the Work Wise UK campaign, which aims to promote smarter working practices, such as home-based operating.

Sharon Hodgson is the MP for Gateshead East and Washington West and has pledged her support for the initiative in part because she has benefited from flexible working allowances in her own life.

Ms Hodgson explained to the regional business news service bdaily that her husband’s decision to work from home has given her family a better balance that has enabled her to succeed in politics.

"Employers really need to give smarter working practices serious thought – it increases productivity and liberates employees so it’s win-win all round," she said.

"I certainly intend to do everything I can to promote the Work Wise campaign – raising questions in the House of Commons and endorsing Work Wise activities locally as it is such an important initiative."

The Work Wise UK campaign has also been backed by some of Britain’s biggest employers, including BT, the RAC Foundation and Transport for London.
