The lure of flexible working is a driving force behind a number of Britons deciding to start up their own business, according to the latest research.
NatWest has found that of the Brits thinking of becoming an entrepreneur, 77 per cent see flexible working as a big draw, while 70 per cent are enticed by a perception of freedom and independence.
The research found that 19 per cent of entrepreneurs aged between 18 and 34 who had set up a business in the last five years were encouraged to do so by reality TV shows such as The Apprentice.
"Whilst it’s encouraging that TV programmes can inspire an army of armchair entrepreneurs into action, they only really scratch the surface of what it takes to run a successful business," Steve Pateman, chief executive of business banking for NatWest.
Having children was a deciding factor for ten per cent of entrepreneurs, according to the bank’s research, suggesting having the flexibility to work from home could provide a helping hand.
Earlier this week Information Strategies said that allowing those working from home to spend time with their families may improve efficiency.
